For the Patriot

Tribute of Respect

WHEREAS, It has pleased the Almighty Maker, to remove from this world our brother, Capt. William Adams of Greensboro’ and it becomes us, his survivors to pay some slight tribute of respect to his worth as a member of the Zeta Psi Fraternity, and to his services as a soldier, and a patriot.  Animated by the noblest impulses of patriotism, and with a full determination to conquer, he joined the army among the first, and was in several terrific battles, among which was Sharpsburg, where he sacrificed his life, gallantly marching at the head of his company.  Therefore,

Resolved, That in the death of our brother, our fraternity has lost one of its most earnest and efficient members and our country, a valuable citizen and brave soldier.

Resolved, That we deeply sympathize with his distressed family in the irreparable loss, and commend them to the God of mercies.

Resolved, That as a token of respect for departed worth, we wear the usual badge of mourning for thirty days.

Resolved, That a copy of this preamble be sent to the family of the deceased, with a request, that they will have it published in the papers of that place.

                                                JOHN S. HENDERSON, Com.

                                                JAMES S. TATE, Com.
